Will Retailers See an Increase in the Buy American Movement?

Is it time for a new wave of Buy American fever?Austin, TX:  Ratings for the 2012 Summer Olympics are at a record high and American athletes are capturing our attention once again, as they seem to do every four years.

Michael Phelps and the rest of the US swimmers setting new world records, the amazing gold-medal winning women’s gymnastics team, the US volleyball and basketball teams and others — these all make for terrific drama and great ratings, both online and on television.

Everyone is shouting, “USA!  USA! USA!”

But does this sense of patriotism end and die once the Olympic games are over– or is this just the start of a renewed Buy American fervor?

I think it is up to advertisers to start promoting American-made products and the sales will follow.

If advertising and marketing can capture the American spirit in a positive way, sales of US-made goods will soar.

No handouts.

No crying foul.

No government mandates.

No tax benefits or tax credits.
