Austin, Texas: Should politicians be forced to buy promotional products that are only made in the USA?
Isn’t it their right as free-market capitalists to buy whatever imprinted bumper sticker, tote bag or water bottle– regardless of their country of origin?
Do people really care if their imprinted swag or gimme caps are from the United States or China or India, for that matter?
Well, the answers to the above questions in order are: NO, YES and YES.
I get several calls each day from political campaigns looking to purchase promotional items that are made in the USA.
Everything that they use can be purchased from domestic factories. Many even from union shops – including bumper stickers, water bottles, tote bags, shirts and caps.
Some do it out of patriotism and sense of duty. Hats off to them- no pun intended.
Some do it because they “got busted” speaking before a group of people and handing out Made in China pens and key chains — only to have it blow up in their face.
Others are scared to death, especially since the Ralph Lauren U.S. Olympic team uniforms were found to have been made in China…and caused them embarrassment and shame in the media for days.
Politicians and political campaigns should be buying American made promotional items because it is the right thing to do.
How can they be a party or candidate that espouses a return to jobs–when they do not support American labor themselves.
Americans can smell a hypocrite a thousand miles away.
Don’t be a campaign that says one thing and does another.
If you are for helping the middle class rise in income, support American jobs.
Buy American made products.
Not just for your campaign, but whenever there is an option.
Do it when nobody else is looking.
Do it because your really believe in this great country of ours.
Buy American-made products because you a a firm believer in the American military– and are tired of supporting foreign regimes because they have raw goods or cheap labor that we want.
Buy US-made products because you are an American.
The job you save may be your own.
