Create Jobs for USA: A Step in the Right Direction

  • Dec 8, 2011

Starbucks is trying to help small businesses get financingAustin, Texas: Starbucks has created a program to help finance small businesses– with the hopes of creating more jobs here in America.

The program has a simple name: Create Jobs for USA

The premise is also simple: Buy a $5 wristband at any Starbucks location and that money will be used to help finance small businesses across the country.

I think this is a pro-active step in the right direction.

Starbucks, through their Starbucks Foundation is donating the first $5,000,000, and, according to their website, they are “teaming up with Opportunity Finance Network® (OFN) which is a group of community lending institutions set up to provide financing to community businesses that need our help. In donating to OFN, 100% of your donation will help create and sustain jobs in underserved communities.”

As a small business owner, I know first hand how difficult it can be at time to get financing for expansion.  At least this program has lofty goals and is targeting those with the hardest time getting financing of any type.

Not all multinational corporations are inherently evil.  However, they should all lead by example and try to create more jobs for Americans.

Kudos to Starbucks for this program.

Support American jobs. The job you save may be your own.
